Who or what is Salem Friends of Felines?
Salem Friends of Felines is a large group of dedicated caring (and hard working) individuals
committed to helping cats and people in our community.
SFOF offers spay and neuter assistance through a voucher program. Our goal is to help with the problem of cat over-population.
Salem Friends of Felines is a no-kill organization for cats in Salem.
Our Adoption Center (for our rescued and previously
unwanted felines), and Thrift Store is in downtown Salem and we always need volunteers.
If you've got time to spare and the desire to help, please get involved.
We also still have our adoption center in the Salem
PetsMart on Lancaster Dr NE & and we always need volunteers there also.
Our Mission Statement
To help as many homeless cats and kittens as we can by placing them in loving permanent homes;
to reduce feline over-population through education and our spay/neuter assistance program;
and to bring more public awareness to the plight of homeless and unwanted cats.

What programs do you fund with donations?
Donations fund the spay and neuter program. Adoption fees, cash donation and revenue from the Thrift Store
help off-set medical expenses for our adoptable and special needs cats.
Is my donation tax deductible?
We are a 501(c)(3) non-profit so your donations are tax deductible as the law allows.
How can I help?
There are many ways to help:
What does the adoption fee include?
Our adoption fee includes:
- Already spayed or neutered
- Micro-chipped
- Tested for Feline Leukemia
- Tested for Feline AIDS
- Vaccinated
- Treated for worms
- Treated for fleas
- ID for the cat or kitten
- First vet exam at Banfield inside Petsmart
I can't keep my cat, can you take it?
Currently our shelter is full. It's only with an adoption that a space opens up. We can only accept new cats or kittens when we have space to accommodate them.
Every day we get more calls for cats and kittens than we can accept. We can only accept adoptable cats and kittens, and we ask that you be able to keep them
in your home until we can accept them.
Why should I spay or neuter my pet?
Please click and read "Why Spay and Neuter"
There is no advantage in allowing your pet to have a litter. There are numerous advantages though to spaying/neutering your pet.
For additional information please see Articles / Pet over-population links.
What if I adopt a cat and it doesn't work out?
When we adopt out our great cats we always want to make sure that you and the cat are happy.
If for any reason an adoption doesn't work out, we always want our kitties back. We will also
gladly refund your adoption fee within the first 30 days.
How does your spay / neuter program work?
Our spay/neuter assistance program works this way;
You pick up a voucher at the store, then make an appointment with one
of the vets we use. At the time you have the cat spayed or neutered,
you give the vet office your co-pay portion and they will bill us the difference.
You may also pick up a certificate at the Adoption Center / Thrift Store during
their normal business hours.
Do you adopt out of state?
We have. You must come in and meet with an adoption specialist and meet the kitten in person
that you are interested in. We do NOT ship cats!
