Wyoming Couple Came to Salem on Monday
November 27th, 2006 to reunite with their lost cat.

On October 22nd an old cat was taken to Salem Friends of Felines in Salem Oregon because it had been found hungry and homeless at the Salem Fairgrounds. The cat had only one eye, was malnutritioned, and had desperately been trying to get into one of the fairgrounds buildings. A Salem Friends of Felines volunteer knew this cat needed help and took her to their shelter.
Jan Petree, the president of Salem Friends of Felines felt that because someone had surgically removed the eye, she was hopeful that someone was looking for their cat. Thus the search to find the owner of the cat began.
Volunteers got involved and soon it was learned that the owners of the cat lived in Wyoming and the cat had been lost at the fairgrounds last September. The phone number given to the organization was wrong, so a post card was mailed and the wait began. A few weeks later the owner called. It had taken a while because they were away on vacation and it was arranged they could leave to come get their cat just after thanksgiving.
The Rowlettes left Wyoming yesterday morning and will be arriving Monday morning, weather permitting, to get their kitty. The kitties name is Tinker and she is 14 years old. 99% of the cats or kittens taken in by Salem Friends of Felines are unwanted or abandoned, and it is with much fanfare that the organization is thrilled that Tinker will be going back home to Wyoming tomorrow. To make it easier should Tinker get lost again, Salem Friends of Felines microchipped Tinker free of charge.
The organization prides itself on doing everything they can for the cats that come into their care. This includes trying to find owners and providing any medical care needed. They are a relatively new non-profit no-kill organization in Salem.
Volunteers made all this possible.
